Obituary of Aida J. Austin

Aida Julie (Abby) Austin born on October 08,1942. She ascended upon her journey to be in the presence of the Lord and entered paradise on August 25.2022 with her family by her side.  

Aida Julia (Abby) Austin was the daughter of Maria Victoria and Maximo Carmona. She was born in Aguadilla Puerto Rico. The family moved to Amsterdam New York when she was 7 years old.  

She had three sisters, Maria Cohen, Ester Hildreth, Josephine (Josie) Blalock, and two brothers Francisco (Frank) Carmona, and George Carmona. 

Aida was the wife of the late Gerald H. Austin and together they had three children.  She was the mother of Valerie Estrada Whisenant, Gloria Jean Austin, and Gerald (Jerry) Lee Austin. 

Aida was the grandmother to Neil Jason Estrada, Dominic Lorenzo Whisenant, and Nicholas Austin Zanella. As well as the great grandmother to Zander Jayson Estrada and Brycen Shay Estrada. 

Aida longed to feel love. She felt that love was spending time with family and friends the need to be close to one another. She loved to nurture her grandchildren. She wanted others to know that she loved them and because of this her idea of love was to show action and not words. She showed her love to others by always trying to help in whatever way she could whether it be by making appointments, calling doctors, taking family to the doctors and always advising when you should do what needed to be done.  This is what she felt was her calling in life. 

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her son, two sisters Maria, and Ester, along with cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Aida leaves behind but not far from her sight her children, Valerie Whisenant and her husband George,  and Gloria Austin; three grandchildren, Neil Estrada and his wife Heidi, Dominic Whisenant, and Nicholas Zanella; two great grandsons Zander and Brycen; and her siblings, Josephine, Frank and George. 

The greatest gift that could be given in Aida’s memory would be to not take life for granted. To spend time, meaningful time with family and friends, because you never know when you will not be able to have that time again. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 11a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, New York 12010.  A calling hour will precede the Mass beginning at 10a.m. at the church.  Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
