Obituary of Joseph A. Guiffre Sr.
Joseph A. Guiffre Sr.; 99 of Tribes Hill, NY; passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, with his loving family by his side at the Mountain Valley Hospice House. Born in Amsterdam NY; on December 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Anthony and Angelina (Marotta) Guiffre.
Survived by his loving children Joseph A. (Beverly) Guiffre Jr; of Fonda, Larry (Pam) Guiffre of Tribes Hill, and Linda S. (Wayne) Matousek of Johnstown. His loving grandchildren whom he adored Matt Guiffre, Sharon Crahan, Susan Gutmaker, Michael Guiffre, Christopher Guiffre, and his great-grandchildren Kyle, Zachary, Shelby, Emma, Keira, Kaylee, Jacob, and Bricky, and by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Besides his parents and his loving wife Concetta Guiffre, whom he married on April 6, 1947, and who passed away on April 3, 2013. Joseph is also predeceased by his brothers Anthony Guiffre, Frank Guiffre, Thomas Guiffre, and by his sisters Mary Marrone, and Lena Lopez.
During Joseph’s lifetime, he proudly served the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 as a Private 1st Class Combat Engineer. He was awarded three Battle Stars as well as other medals. Joseph felt serving his country was one of the greatest honors of his life. He was a quillian at Mohawk Mills and later was employed by the Montgomery County Highway Department in Fonda as a Forman for Building and Grounds, retiring in 1986. He was a Communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the Tribes Hill Fire Department, and a member of the Glen-Mohawk and Iroquois Seniors. Most of all, Joseph enjoyed traveling with his late wife Concetta to Florida for many vacations.
Joseph’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home and to the Mountain Valley Hospice for all the care that was given to Joseph.
Calling Hours will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 11 am to 12 noon at the Jackson & Betz Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072, with a Funeral Service to follow at 12 noon at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family plot next to his late wife Concetta at the Pine Grove Cemetery with military honors.
