Obituary of Ila Mae Bortell
Mrs. Ila Mae Bortell, 85, formerly of Fort Plain, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2022. Born on February 14, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Harriet Musgrave Saltsman. She was a graduate of Fonda- Fultonville High School and attended Cobleskill College, finishing at FMCC with a degree in Food Service Management. Ila Mae was employed in food service and management at the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, Fonda- Fultonville Central School and later the Cloisterie until its closing.
On December 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to Ronald W. Bortell. That union was blessed with 59 years of marriage until his passing on June 5, 2014. She was also predeceased by her children, Glen Lee Bortell and Candy Ann Bortell; as well as her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bortell.
Her loving family includes four sons, James “Jim” Bortell, Trent (Leah) Natola, Craig Allen and Scott (Amy) Bortell; one daughter, Holly Marie Bortell; four brothers, Gerald (Beatrice) Saltsman, Paul Saltsman, Leslie (Jean) Saltsman and Arnold Saltsman; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 11a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY.
