Obituary of John C. Carter

John Charles Carter, born December 15, 1942 in Gloversville, New York, died on Friday, June 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

John served in the US Army, and upon returning home took a job caring for the grounds of the Prospect Hill Cemetery. He also volunteered as both a firefighter and policeman for the town of Mayfield, and spent some time driving trucks. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, the local Moose lodge, and the Concordia Club.

When not at work or serving his community, John enjoyed Pow-Wows, playing pool, doing construction, woodworking, riding horses, going out for coffee at the Northampton Diner, camping, and just going for rides. His favorite past-time was spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife: Betty Carter; his sons: John LeVeille, Sheldon LeVeille, Charles (Linda) Dawson; his daughters: Peggy (Rick) Matott, and Lori (Bill) Platt, a brother: Billy (Stacay) Juba; sisters: Janice (Guy) Frasier, Kathleen (Stan) Krupinsky, and Karen Carter; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother: Marion Jeffers Carter; his father: James Carter; his mom: Elizabeth Jarvis; his dad: Sheldon Jarvis; his brothers: James and David Carter;  a sister: Jacqueline Beck; his grandparents; great-grandparents; and a step-daughter: Betty Getwright.

Services for John will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
