Obituary of Ramon Camacho Jr.

      Mr. Ramon Camacho,  83,  of Amsterdam, passed away on Sunday May 8, 2022 at the EL Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with his loving family at his side.

     Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico on December 18, 1938 a son of the late Ramon and Lucia "Lula" Camacho.  He attended schools in Puerto Rico.      

     Ramon was employed for many years for the City of Amsterdam in the Water Filtration Department.  He was first employed for MOSA and the former Cotton Club in Amsterdam.

  He  was very active in the community and a member of Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.  He enjoyed playing softball for various teams in Amsterdam.  He was a member and the former president of the Spanish American Club in Amsterdam. 

     Ramon truly wanted the best for his family and all he loved.  He was the sharpest dresser in town and always so proud of his roots.  He loved God, his family, hard work, baseball and a good Guayabera. He will be missed by all who knew him.   

    He is survived by his loving wife, Dora Torres Camacho whom he married on November 5th, 1957.  In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Norberto (Linda) Camacho, Yvette Camacho Sousa and Rafael Camacho all of Amsterdam, NY.  Cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Orlando, Amanda, Tara, Kara, Kaylen, Kenley, Yari, Elissa, Jose Jr. , Elliana, Lessia, Jeremy, Elyas and Malia.   His brothers and sisters,  Mirtha (James Jr.) Rodriguez of Puerto Rico, Carmen Iris Camacho of Puerto Rico, Judy Lozada of Florida, Nidia Camacho of Puerto Rico, Edith Camacho of Puerto Rico and Diane Camacho of Amsterdam, NY.  Sister-in-law, Jeanie Camacho.  Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. 

     He was predeceased by his son Ivan Camacho on January 18, 2014, his brother,  Jose Camacho and recently a nephew,  Jose Lozada.    

         A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 12, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church,156  East Main St., Amsterdam, with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis V.F. as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam.  Calling hours are Thursday prior to the funeral mass from 10:00AM to 12:00 Noon at the church.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Historic St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main St. Amsterdam, NY 12010.
