Obituary of Catherine E. Knowlton
Mrs. Catherine Knowlton, 73, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at her home in Tribes Hill surrounded by her loving family and dog.
She was born on December 12, 1948 to the late Mr. James Andrew Ryan and Mrs. Mary Rose Gagnon Ryan.
A lifelong area resident Catherine attended and graduated from Fonda Fultonville Central School in 1966. On November 16, 1968 Miss. Catherine Ryan was united in holy matrimony to Mr. David Knowlton.
She was employed for a time at Knolls Atomic Research Lab where she had the honor of handling some of the first moon rocks ever brought back to Earth. As a homemaker she was a devoted and loving wife and later enjoyed working from home as a court transcriptionist for Montgomery County. She was able to work from home, often in the comfort of her nightgown. She retired in 2002.
Catherine had several hobbies including knitting and crocheting for Veterans, she enjoyed camping with her husband in their motor home and later at their camp at Pine Lake. She loved baking cookies, especially at Christmas time with her nieces, and enjoyed making jewelry, as well as watching NCIS on TV. She was a music lover who enjoyed listening to Peter, Paul & Mary, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, John Denver, Loggins & Messina along with many other folk rock singers. Catherine and David were wonderful hosts who loved celebrating with her family and often hosted the entire Ryan family for numerous holidays, weddings, celebrations, and parties.
She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, David Knowlton, beloved dog “Bob Knowly”, sisters; Eileen (Frank) Zilinskas, Andrea (Arthur) Donahue, Colleen Gordon and brother James (Barb) Ryan as well as her beloved godchildren; Nichole Klena, Jessica Jameson and Griffin Klena. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church 111 3rd Ave Tribes Hill, NY 12177 with Very Rev. Christopher Welch. Interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill immediately following Mass. Calling hours are scheduled to take place on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave Amsterdam, NY 12010.
