Obituary of Joseph H. Barker

Joseph H. Barker, 61, of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 1, 2022 with his loving family by his side, after enduring 20+ years with progressive MS.  Born on March 23, 1961, he was the son of Richard E. Barker Sr. and Dorothy M Barker (Kaminski).

A lifelong area resident, Joe attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School and received his GED and grew up in Hagaman.  He worked at Coleco & Hasbro as a warehouse distribution leader; Empire Homes and then Sun Building Systems of PA, where he was the on-the-road modular home technician.

Joe was an avid hunter & fisherman, and a great lover of the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and friends. His great sense of humor and words of wisdom will be deeply missed.

He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy M. Barker (Kaminski), his father Richard E. Barker Sr., and his sister Mary Belinda Barker.

Joe is survived by his daughter and long-time caregiver Tara L. Barker-Viele (Steve) of Amsterdam, NY, daughter Tasha P. Mosley of Schenectady, NY; two brothers, Richard E. Barker Jr. (Elizabeth “Betsy”) and David J. Barker, both of Amsterdam, NY; his long-time love and mother of his children Theresa A. Burtt of Amsterdam, NY; best friend of 50+ years Timothy M. Whalen of Phoenix, AZ.  Nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also survive.

At Joe’s request, there are no formal services.  A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.  Cremation arrangments have been entrusted to the care of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home.
