Obituary of Joyce A. Smith

Mrs. Joyce A. Smith, 86, of Switzer Hill Road, Fonda, NY died peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.  Born in Gloversville, NY on November 16, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. Ambrosino and Marguerite L. Fagan Ambrosino.

A lifelong area resident, Joyce attended Mayfield schools and went on to graduate from Oneonta Teacher’s College.  For over 30 years, Joyce was an Elementary School Teacher, retiring from the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District in 1991.  She continued her public service as a volunteer for the district for many years.  Joyce was also a member of the Fonda Reformed Church, where she was an active parishioner serving as a Bible Study Teacher. Her greatest joy when not spending time with children and grandchildren, was being with family.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

On July 1, 1961 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Arthur Smith.  That union was blessed with 33 years of marriage until his passing on July 21, 1994.  She was also predeceased by her siblings, Joseph Ambrosino, Peggy Quant and David Ambrosino.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Caren) Smith and Louise A. Huth; three grandchildren, Remington Smith, Amber (Matthew) Smith and Michael (Megan) DeCicco; three siblings, Susan (Denis) Wilson, Robert (Mary Jo) Ambrosino and Terry (Heidi) Ambrosino; one sister-in-law, Madeline Ambrosino; and one brother-in-law, Richard Quant; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:30a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, April 22, 2022 from 4p.m. until 6p.m. at the funeral home.  Please visit the online memorial at www.brbsfuneral.om
