Obituary of James Mitchell Barbin
James Mitchell Barbin, 70, of Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully on April 12, 2022 following a brief illness.
A lifelong area resident, Jim was born on May 29, 1951, the only son of the late Walter J. Barbin and B. Elizabeth (Mitchell) Barbin. Jim attended local schools and went on to graduate from FMCC.
Jim was employed as the receiving clerk for MCA Record Company- Universal in Gloversville, NY for over 35 years. During his tenure there he was actively involved with the Union, serving as President, Vice President and Shop Steward.
A unique individual, Jim could be direct & candid in his thoughts, words & actions. He looked at life differently than most, but loved deeply and unconditionally. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan D. Krahmer, and together for over 50 years enjoyed life to the fullest. Jim loved fast cars; had a knack for fixing and building things and had a green thumb. He had a great affection for animals. An avid traveler, he enjoyed camping and visiting destinations throughout the United States. He will be missed by all who knew him and those that enjoyed his friendship.
He is survived by his wife Susan; in addition to his extended family including Scott (Sarah) & MacKenzie; Elizabeth (Glen); Norma Jean (Dan); Margaret (Ed); Raymond (Mayra); Joanne (Jose), and several nieces,nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law Robert & Franklin.
A gathering for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 4p.m. until 6:30p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Online condolences may be shared at www.brbsfuneral.com
