Obituary of Catherine E. May

Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth May, age 90, of St. Johnsville, New York, died on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, in Gloversville, New York.

She was born on August 28, 1931 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of Leland and Margaret (Fitzpatrick) Haggerty. After high school, she was employed as a Leatherworker by Ellithorpe Tanning of Gloversville. She was a devout Free Methodist, serving her church and the Lord for over 60 years alongside her late husband, Pastor Howard E. May, Jr.  When Catherine wasn't at work or at church, she enjoyed the outdoors, including camping, fishing, watching birds, and growing flowers. She loved cooking, and cooking allowed to to enjoy her real love, her family.

Catherine is survived by her children: James L. (Crystal) May, Craig M. May, and Jeffrey L. (JoAnn) May; her grandchildren: Justin May, Michael (Ashley) May, Lisa (John)  Kadaraitis, Gabrielle (James) Vandenhouten, Jordan (Anne) May, Vincent (Melissa) May, Jennifer Ross, Derek May, Jeffrey J. May, Aubrey M. May, Angelina (Ryon) Bennett, Eric (Ashley) Eckler, and Andrew (Jess) Eckler; as well as 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and Eric Pelcher, who was like another son to her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Pastor Howard E. May Jr.; her parents: Leland and Margaret  Haggerty, and her son, Wayne D. May.

Services for Catherine will be held at a later date, to be announced. 

Interment will take place in the spring at the Fical Cemetery.
