Obituary of Lorraine D. O'Brien

Mrs. Lorraine D. O’Brien, 95, of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 20, 2022.  Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 8, 1927 she was the daughter of Asa and Lena McCallough Drake.

A lifelong area resident, Lorraine attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

On April 17, 1949 she was united in marriage to Vernon C. “Pete” O’Brien Sr.  That union was blessed with 59 years of marriage until his passing on December 19, 2008.  She was also predeceased by her son, Vernon C. O’Brien Jr., on May 14, 2019.

Lorraine served as the bookkeeper for the family business, Vern’s Autobody and Sales for many years until her retirement.

A woman of great faith, she was a longtime member of the Florida Reformed Church. She served as an Elder, Deacon, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.  She was also a member of the former Labora Club.  Lorraine enjoyed reading, canning, cooking and most of all, spending time with her family.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her son, Timothy R. O’Brien Sr., and his wife Colleen of Broadalbin; her daughter-in-law, Sherry O’Brien of Amsterdam; her four grandchildren, Christina M. Yates and her husband Peter, Cara Lee O’Brien, Timothy R. O’Brien Jr. and his wife Marlaina, and Robert V. O’Brien and his wife Gina; eleven great grandchildren, Jackson, Calli, Kaylee, Jonas, Raffaele, Colbie, Reese, Jerrett, Kennedy, Jayce and Rita; and one sister, Gertrude Pharo of Tuckerton, NJ.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11a.m. at the Florida Reformed Church, 6255 NY-30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 10a.m. at the church.  Burial will take place in the Chuctanunda Cemetery, Minaville, NY.
