Obituary of Judith A. Davis

Mother, devoted daughter, wife, grandmother, sister, and registered nurse. These nurturing titles and relationships were the hallmark of the life of Judith A. Davis. Judy passed away at the age of seventy-five on March 6, 2022, at Ellis Hospital after a battle with cancer and surrounded by loving family. 

Judy was born in 1946 in Philadelphia, New York to Arthur and Madeline Miles. While growing up Judy assisted her parents in the raising of her two younger brothers Ronald and Steven. After meeting the love of her life, Malcolm, in their high school concert band, they married in 1966 and raised five children together. After high school she went on to graduate with a registered nursing degree (RN). Judy took extreme pride in her nursing career. She was a compassionate and dedicated nurse and loved her important work caring for patients in the I.C.U. at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville for over 20 years. Judy was the industrious matriarch of her family and was a stay-at-home mom while her children were in elementary school. From camping trips, to sports, to being a den mother, to improvising award winning Halloween costumes for her kids, Judy was a one-woman dynamo who managed a bustling household. She mastered many practical skills and even made multiple items of clothing for her children (often to their chagrin). Judy worked from home doing an assortment of jobs while her children were young and was unmatched in stretching a household budget. 

Judy had an unbounded love for her church, flower gardening, singing in various choirs and her family. She even convinced a skeptical Malcolm to join her in choirs in retirement to the bemusement and happy shock of her family. Judy was an enthusiastic singer and never hesitated in making a joyful noise with her various choirs. She loved to sing and did it loudly, with vigor, great spirit and pure joy. Together Judy and Malcolm cultivated an expansive home garden in retirement, filled with a beautiful array of flowers and a wide array of plantings on their property. They would often share the fruits of their garden labors with friends and family. Inseparable, Judy and Malcolm took great satisfaction in their management of the North Main Street United Methodist Church Food Pantry. They spent countless hours improving the pantry and aiding their community. Judy loved her pets through the years especially her Bichon Frise rescue dog Dexter who “fiercely” guarded her with the entirety of his ten pounds. Judy doted on Dexter and her cats who provided regular entertainment with their hijinks. 

Judy is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Madeline Miles, her beloved husband Malcolm Davis, and her son Jeffrey Davis. She is survived by her sons Eric Davis, and his wife Teresia, James Davis, and his wife Barbara, Christopher Davis, and his wife Cindy and daughter Katrina Davis. Judy is survived by her brothers Steven and Ronald and Ronald’s wife Carrie. She is also survived by Jeff’s wife, Jennifer, as well as nine grandchildren, Kiera, Ryan, Austin, Alyssa, Jacob, Joshua, Andrew, Aidan, and Audra. 

Calling hours will be held on Friday March 18, 2022, from 4-7 pm at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street in Gloversville. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 19, 2022, at 11 am at the North Main Street United Methodist Church, 316 North Main Street, Gloversville.
