Obituary of Edward R. Paton

      Mr. Edward R. “Ed” Paton, 86, of Tribes Hill, NY, passed away Sunday January 30, 2022 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care facility in Amsterdam following a brief illness.
     Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 17, 1935 the son of the late George and Helen Kulasky Paton. He was a lifelong resident of Tribes Hill, NY and was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School.
     In 1958  Mr. Paton started working as a Deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.  Then in 1960 he established the Mohawk Valley Tire Co. in Fort Plain and was the owner and operator until retiring in 2000.
     He served as a Councilman for the Town of Mohawk before becoming the Supervisor for the Town in 1993 and serving until 2009. He also served as Chairman of the Republican Committee.   He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, NY. He was a member of the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department and the Pine Grove Cemetery Association.  Ed was an avid NY Yankees fan and NY Giants fan.
     He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Faber Paton on August 11, 1957. They would have been married 64 years in 2021, as Betsy passed away before their anniversary on January 17, 2021.
     Survivors include, three children, Mark Paton (Amy) of Arizona, Ann Licciardi (Mike Chase) of Fort Plain, NY and Matthew Paton (Lynne) of Tribes Hill, NY. Cherished grandchildren, Christopher Licciardi (Megan), Nicole Licciardi (Matt Shufelt), Ashley Paton (Dan Sheehan), Jamy Foy (Edward) and Collin Rhodes. He was affectionately known as “GG Pa” by his Great-Grandchildren, Ethan Licciardi, Ella Licciardi, Camden Shufelt, Taylor Foy and Payton Foy. Brother John Paton. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.   Ed was predeceased by brothers William Paton, George Paton, sisters, Marie Paton, Ruth Cronkhite, Betty Tretola and Eleanor Hanrahan.
     A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 111 3^rd Ave, Tribes Hill, NY with Father Christopher Welch presiding.   Interment will be in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.   The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday February 6, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. The Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department will have a service at 4:30PM on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 111 3^rd Ave, Tribes Hill, NY 12177 or to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
