Obituary of Barbara Ann Rhodes
The world lost a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Ann Rhodes, 70 years of Gloversville, NY on January 14, 2022. Barb fought a courageous battle with end stage kidney disease, Parkinson’s and most recently Lewy Body Dementia. These illnesses never stopped her zest for life and sense of humor.
Barbara passed away at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her children, Tracie (Kelly), Rick (Lyndsey) and Kelly DiScioscia and her loving husband of 47 years, Richard Rhodes. She was born on April 28, 1951, the "baby" of the sisters, Barb was the youngest child for her parents, Marvin and Nettie Dickenson.
Barb worked within the Gloversville School District for 38 years and Lexington Center for 20 years. Anyone and everyone that knew or worked with her, knew her as someone that would give you her last dollar, if you needed it. Barbara was a kind, caring and gentle soul that really took great pride in the work that she did for so many years. She was always willing to give out a hug to whomever needed it. Barb was a very devoted and loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Elliot Rose, who was her pride and joy, who was her "Boo-Boo".
Barbara's favorite past times were always having family around, collecting antiques and she loved her garage sales in the summer. She also loved being "a 2nd grandmother" to her grandchildren's friends.
Barb is preceded in death by her first husband, James Craig, her mother and father, Nettie and Marvin Dickenson and brother, Joseph Dickenson. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Tracie Craig, Rick Rhodes and Kelly DiScioscia (and significant others), two grandchildren, Monica and Dominic DiScioscia and great-granddaughter Elliot Rose. Also survived by two sisters, Rosalind Acquilla and Sandra Jackson (Bob), several nieces, nephews and other family.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 am to 12 noon Wednesday, January 19th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Facial masks are required.
Per Barb's wishes, a private funeral service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
A Celebration of Life will be held sometime in the spring/summertime. The family requests that if you have been exposed recently or have symptoms of Covid-19, that you please refrain from attending the above events.
