Obituary of Edward J. Schichler

Mr. Edward J. Schichler, 92, of Pana, Illinois passes away peacefully on December 27, 2021.  He was a former resident of Nelliston, NY. 

Born on April 26, 1929 in Rochester, NY he was the son of the late William J. Schichler and Bertha Edna Shults Schichler.  Ed was a hard worker all of his life working at Mohawk Carpet Mills and Beech- Nut.  He was an avid carpenter and enjoyed going to garage sales- just to find the best deal.  He also was very generous and willing to help anyone and always offered sound advice. 

Ed served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Army from 1951- 1956.

On May 29, 1971 he was united in marriage to Jane A. Aird Schichler. That union was blessed with 39 years until her passing on March 13, 2009. 

Survivors include three children, Brenda Betterton and her husband Richard of Pana, IL, Alice Getman and Ed Czernecki of Herkimer, NY, Phil Sullivan and Judy Tidd of Port Gibson, NY; grandchildren; great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 11a.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.  Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY with military honors.  A calling hour will be held prior to the service beginning at 10a.m. at the funeral home.  Masks are required for all events.
