Obituary of Stanley J. Alikonis
Mr. Stanley J. Alikonis, 98, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 5, 1923 he was the son of the late George and Teofilia Satula Alikonis.
A lifelong area resident, Stanley attended a one room country school house. On January 4, 1943 he entered into the United States Army, serving proudly during WWII. He received a Purple Heart and Four Bronze Battle Stars and was honorably discharged on October 8, 1945 at the rank of Corporal.
On September 7, 1947 he was united in marriage to Frances Silka Alikonis. Stanley was a truck driver for many years retiring from the Teamsters Local #294. Together, Frances and Stan made their home in the Town of Florida and enjoyed their time together. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, Stanley E. Alikonis and his wife Karen, Harold Alikonis and his wife Sandy; his grandchildren, Vanessa, Jessica and Megan; two great grandchildren, Devin and Kylie; one sister, Isabel Buczek; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph, Leo, George, Julia, Tillie, Stacia, Anna and Irene.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 11a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 4 until 7p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Masks are required for all events.
