Obituary of Giovanni V. Sasso
Mr. Giovanni "John" V. Sasso, 85, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at River Ridge Living Center LLC in Amsterdam following a brief illness.
Born in Alife, Caserta, Italy on October 26, 1936 a son of the late Gabriele and Cristina Sasso. He attended schools in Italy and came to the United States in 1962.
John was employed for many years as a foreman at the Adirondack Knitting Mills in Amsterdam. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
He enjoyed playing Soccer in his younger years and continued to be a Soccer enthusiast. He also enjoyed watching sports and attending sporting events.
John is survived by his dear sister, Filomena DeMartinis of Amsterdam and brothers, Salvatore “Sal” (Anne) Sasso of Amsterdam and Giuseppe “Joe” (Emilia) Sasso of Alife, Caserta, Italy and sister-in-law, Maria Sasso of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Vincent Sasso on January 31, 2021, his niece, Luisa A. DeMartinis and brother-in-law, Tullio DeMartinis.
John’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the River Ridge Living Center LLC. for the compassionate and loving care they showed John while he was there.
It was John's request that there be no calling or viewing hours. Family and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday December 18, 2021 at 11:30AM at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell St. Amsterdam, NY with John's nephew, Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed for your convenience on the church's Facebook page; St Stans-Amsterdam on Saturday at 11:30AM. According to the New York State Mandate, masks need to be worn by all attending the funeral mass in the church. Private entombment will be in the family mausoleum in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Amsterdam. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
