Obituary of Charles B. Jones III

Charles Bernard Jones III passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.  He will be remembered as a loving, humble, and humorous husband and father.

He was born on November 25, 1931 to Althea (Freeman) and Charles B Jones II, in Clifton Springs NY.  Chuck went on to graduate from Webster High School in 1949, attend State University of New York Agricultural and Technical Institute in Morrisville and earn a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University in 1955.

Chuck married the love of his life, Nancy Gordon, in East Lansing Michigan in 1955 and worked six months for the Ford Motor Company in their marketing and research division before Uncle Sam called him to serve in the Army Medical Corp.  After boot camp, he was stationed in Japan for a year. Upon his release from his service, he worked for the Virginia Carolina Chemical Corporation in Michigan before being hired as a field representative at Beech-Nut Life Savers in July of 1959.  He traveled extensively overseeing the purchasing of fresh produce for Beech-Nut baby foods.  Chuck retired in 1991 as Director of Purchasing for Beech Nut.

After retirement, Chuck joined the Woodworkers Association of New York and started his own business, Custom Woodworking, where he spent the next 25 years producing beautiful Early American Reproductions.  He sold many pieces at the Bouckville-Madison Antique Show and at Picture Perfect in Canajoharie.

Chuck belonged to the Reformed Church of Canajoharie where he was a part of the Greater Consistory.  He volunteered for many years at Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and as a member of the Planning and Zoning Boards for the Village of Canajoharie. He was also a member of the National Ski Patrol where he patrolled at the former Scotch Valley Ski Resort. He loved to ski in the winter, golf in the summer as well as working in his garden and watching Michigan State football games.  He and Nancy spent much time sitting in their porch rocking chairs in the summer evenings.

Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Althea and Charles, his sister Patricia, and his brother Peter.  He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, son Michael (Darlene) Jones and daughters Patricia (John) Prime and Elizabeth DeWald.  He had six grandchildren: Ashley Jones and Natalie (Preston) Harris; Kelly Prime and Maxwell Prime; Lindsay (Alexandra) Quill and Matthew Quill.  And one great-grandson Theodore Harris.
