Obituary of Anne S. Carpenter
Mrs. Anne S. Carpenter, 94, of Gansevoort NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family following her battle with Cancer.
Anne was born on Nov 27, 1926 to Thomas & Anna (Yurik) Skandera. Growing up on a farm in Fonda, she learned early in life the value of hard work and dedication to family and country as the cornerstone of the American Dream. Anne was a 1945 graduate of Canajoharie HS who worked for Beechnut Foods until she married Donald Carpenter, also of Fonda. Together they raised 4 wonderful children: Jesse Carpenter of Tempe AZ; Fred Carpenter of Schenectady NY; Diane (Andy) Papa of Fonda NY and Terri (Scott) Dyer of Gansevoort NY.
Anne was predeceased by her husband of 37 Years, Donald Duane Carpenter, a brother Thomas Skandera, and her sister Suzanne Carpenter. Along with her children Anne is survived by four grandchildren; Jennifer (Rich) Paszkiewicz of Scotia, Desiree (Jeremy) Krizan of Tribes Hill, Danielle (Ian Hamelin) Papa of Schaghticoke and Jonathan (Annie Laier) Carpenter of Sharon Springs; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dedication to family was the hallmark of Anne’s life. Anne was always the peacemaker and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She enjoyed word puzzles, miniature golf, sewing, crochet and cooking; but most of all spending time with beloved family and friends. Always an animal lover, her life was filled with the unconditional love of her many pets, especially a cat named Squeeky and her final constant companion who remained by her side until the very end, her doggie Miss Hiraani Tiger Lily. While not rich in material possessions, no one was richer in love and adoration. To Anne there was no such thing as a stranger, but only a friend whom she had yet to meet. The world was a better place with her in it.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Kelly Foley and the rest of the nursing staff at Community Hospice, and neighbors Michael and Debbie Mihaly for keeping an eye on “Ma” over the years.
