Obituary of Floyd T. Lepper

Floyd T. Lepper, 90, went home to be with the Lord on October 26^th, 2021 at Wilkinson Nursing Home in Amsterdam.  Born on August 23, 1931 in the city of Amsterdam, Floyd was the son of the Reverend Floyd E. and Mildred J. Lepper.  Floyd was pre-deceased by his brother Marvin and sister Reba.

Floyd enlisted in the army in 1952 and was based in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and Fort Carson, Colorado Springs during the Korean War.  Upon his return to Amsterdam, Floyd was introduced to the love of his life, Marilyn Davis, by his brother-in-law Archie Rose who married Marilyn’s sister Dolores in 1952.  Floyd and Marilyn were married on May 29^th, 1955 and enjoyed 66 years of marriage.

Floyd spent 34 years in various positions at General Electric as a master electrician, retiring in 1988.  For years, Floyd was the employee who changed the lightbulbs on the GE sign at the Schenectady campus.  He started doing electrical work on the side in the mid 1960’s.  It turned into a full-fledged business called Lepper’s Electric, which he operated out of several large vans with his logo doing electrical work at homes and business in Amsterdam and surrounding towns till the early 2000’s.  Floyd was a past president of the Amsterdam Electrical Association.

Floyd loved tools and gadgets and filled his basement with a collection of them.  He was also Mr. Fix It, repairing many items that no one else could get to work.  He crafted many handmade wooden candles, bird houses and ornaments with lights in his workshop that were given as Christmas gifts, many of which are still on display.  Floyd was a cub scout and boy scout leader and loved watching his daughter Bobbie play softball from the time she was 8 years old. 

Floyd was a deacon at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church for many years.  He was a founding member of Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church and held the position of deacon for many years and sung in the church choir.

Floyd is survived by his son Mark (Marcee) Lepper of Fairview, Pennsylvania, daughter Barbara “Bobbie Jean” and husband Ken Howansky of Schenectady.  Also, grandchildren John Lepper and Captain Joshua Lepper (wife Grace) and Kara A. Howansky.  Several nieces and nephews including Linda Uline (Fred) of Mechanicville.

The family would like to thank the nurses and social workers on the second floor at Wilkinson Nursing Home for their support and care for Floyd.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. 

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday October 29, 2021, 4:00 PM at Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 9 Trinity Place, Amsterdam, NY 12010 with a reception following the service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
