Obituary of Frances F. Winkler

Frances F. Winkler, 104, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.  Mrs. Winkler was lovingly cared for at her home by her son David and several gracious helpers for the last eleven years as she suffered the effects of dementia.

She was born on July 25, 1917 in Johnstown and lived in Fulton and Montgomery counties all her life. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Amy (Voorhees) Fonda and attended Johnstown schools. 

She married Alquin Winkler on August 12, 1950, and they enjoyed 57 years together prior to his death on January 3, 2008.

Frances worked in the glove mills and later for Fonda-Fultonville Schools as support staff.  She was a long-standing member of the Fonda Reformed Church.  She served as a Sunday school teacher.  She also led Bible studies with the Christian Women’s organization.

She was a great mother, wonderful grandmother, and good cook.  All loved her chocolate jumble cookies that she mastered from her mother-in-law’s recipe.  She loved to bake more than clean the house.

Frances is survived by her son, David, and daughter, Marcia (Lane) Sattler; six grandchildren – Amy (Brendan), Aaron (Rebekah), Benjamin (Jessica), Kaitlin (Andrew), Abigail (Christopher), and Anna; ten great grandchildren – Elizabeth, Easton, Claire, Emmeline, David, Nehemiah, Lincoln, Madalynn, Lewis, and Hannah; sister-in-law Stella Fonda; and several nieces and nephews.

Frances was predeceased by her husband Alquin, her sister Bessie Ingersoll, her brother Richard Fonda, and her brother-in-law Enders Ingersoll.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 25, 2021, at 1 pm at the Fonda Reformed Church, 19 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068 with the Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 11 to 1 pm. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.  Masks are required for all services.
