Obituary of Bertha Daggett
Mrs. Bertha “Bernice” Daggett, 98, formerly of Perth, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday evening September 17, 2021 at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, NY.
She was born in Parsons, PA on July 1, 1923 a daughter of the late John and Bertha Zalinski. Bernice had many challenges in her childhood losing both parents at an early age. She enlisted in the US Women’s Air Corps in 1943 at the age of 20 and trained as a dental assistant, a profession which she enjoyed and continued after being discharged from the service.
She met and married James Daggett on February 18, 1951 and they had an enduring and loving marriage of 53 years. He passed away on January 22, 2004. Throughout her life, Bernice was known for her delightful sense of humor, her spunk, her love of family and friends and her delicious cooking. She loved nature and animals and shared her later life with two cherished cats.
Survivors include her daughter; Jennifer Pratt and her husband Gregg of Saratoga Springs, NY. Four grandchildren, James Daggett and his wife Victoria of Volcan, Panama. Sheryl Zell of Vero Beach, FL, Theodore Daggett of Washington Crossing , PA and Chadwick Pooler and his wife Carey of North Creek, NY. One brother, Theodore Zalinski of Orange Park, FL. Cherished great-grandchildren, Jessica, Theodore, Luke, Zachary, Rachel, Gabriella, Ethan, Alexander and Noah. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Bernice was predeceased by a stepson, James Lewis Daggett in March of 2020. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Jean Marino, Sabrina Wisnewski, Stella Soboleski, John Zalinski and Edmund Zalinski.
The service will be held on Saturday October 2, 2021 at 11:00AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc. 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday beginning at 10:00AM prior to the funeral service. The interment at Perth Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a favorite animal shelter.
