Obituary of Gladys M. Herrick Gogis
Gladys M. Herrick Gogis, 93, of the Town of Florida, NY, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born in Amsterdam, NY on October 11, 1927 to the late George and Alice (Severin) Herrick. She was a life-long resident of the Amsterdam area.
On July 1, 1956 Gladys was united in marriage to Benjamin E. Gogis, a life-long resident of the Town of Florida. They enjoyed over 52 years together, until his passing on January 29, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, George and Alice; as well as by her siblings, Marion Tolster, Alma Lasher, and Irvan Herrick.
Throughout her life, Gladys enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her birdfeeders to watch all the birds. She also loved all types of antiques, especially clocks, and always loved to knit and crochet. She would use this talent later in life to crochet and knit her grandchildren scarves, hats, and gloves. Gladys was known as the Family Historian, and often did genealogical research to look further into her family’s history.
Gladys is survived by her loving family, including her children, Rebecca (David) Shanley, Cynthia (James) Brockman, Michael (Suanne) Gogis, and Peter (Kelly) Gogis; her grandchildren, Shaun Shafer, Amanda, Matthew, Erika, and Krista Gogis, and Emily and Sarah Brockman; her sister, Hilda Koontz; her beloved cat, Big Kitty; as well as by several generations of nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 4:00 o’clock until 6:30 in the evening at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Funeral services will be conducted on June 2, 2021 at 10:00AM at the Woestina Reformed Church, 1397 Main Street, Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150. Interment will follow at Woestina Cemetery in Rotterdam Junction, NY, where she will be laid to rest next to Benjamin. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, or to a charity of your choosing.
