Obituary of Jane M. Van Allen

Mrs. Jane M. Van Allen, 93, of Wesleyan Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 1, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Elsie Trull Marks.

 

A lifelong city resident, Jane attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1944. Jane worked for a short time at The Navy Depot, Scotia, NY before becoming a homemaker.

 

On May 29, 1948 she was united in marriage to William H. Van Allen, Jr. That union was blessed with 58 years of marriage until his passing on August 2, 2006. She was predeceased by her brother, William H. Marks; The Honorable James D. Marks and his wife Paula; a son-in-law Eric J. Luzinas and her sister-in-law, Rosemary V. Francisco and her husband Robert.

 

Jane enjoyed life to the fullest and had many accomplishments. She was a lifelong active member of the former First Reformed Church.  She was the first woman Elder of that Church. She was also the Secretary/Treasurer of their Consistory. She was a current member of the Minaville Reformed Church. Her greatest joy was her family, which she loved dearly. Jane was a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader, and was involved in all her children’s activities. She will be missed by all who knew her.

 

Survivors include her three children, Patricia J. Van Allen, with whom she resided; Linda V. Luzinas of Blossvale, NY; and Michael W. Van Allen and his wife Marilyn of Amsterdam, NY.; three grandchildren, David M. Van Allen and his wife Elizabeth of Florida, Jeffrey D. Van Allen and Rochelyn Hernandez of Amsterdam, and Patrick O. Luzinas of Blossvale, NY; two great granddaughters, Aaliyah and Tyanna Van Allen; one sister, Elaine C. Burns and her husband David of North Carolina; her brother-in-law Robert N. Van Allen and his wife Madeline of Amsterdam, NY as well as  many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

A Service of Remembrance and Legacy Candle Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 11a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with her great nephew, Peter J. Rose, CFSP officiating.  The service will be live streamed on the BRBS Facebook page. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, where she be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.

 

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 2p.m. until 5p.m. at the funeral home.
