Obituary of Gloria C. Hall

Mrs. Gloria Constance Hall, 88, of Schenectady, New York, was born in Atlanta, GA on July 22, 1932. She was a resident of Gloversville, New York for 68 years. On Sunday, May 9, 2021, Gloria passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillie Mae (Brown) Leslie.

 

On January 1st, 1949, she was united in marriage to Johnnie Lee Hall, Sr. That union was blessed with 62 years of marriage until his passing on December 30, 2010. From that union they were blessed with ten children.

 

Gloria will be remembered for her love of her family and her faith. She was a faithful member of the A.M.E. Zion church where she served on the Contingent Fund and the Missionary Board. Gloria was well known for her cooking and her home was often the center for many family celebrations and everyone was always welcome. She enjoyed taking care of her home, her family and she enjoyed nature.

 

Gloria also liked various card games and casino excursions but her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed outings with her children including attending their sports and extracurricular events. She took great pride in instilling in her children values of kindness, charity, work ethics and humor. She taught her children to care for the environment and their health. She was a firm believer in exercising, drinking green tea, and eating an apple a day. Some of her hobbies were growing plants, reading, crossword puzzles, and singing and dancing. Her charitable and playful spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

 

In addition to raising children, Gloria enjoyed her employment at Continental Knitting Mills and Hawkins Fabrics where she made many lifelong friends.

 

Survivors include her ten children, Patricia Hall-Murray, Joseph Hall Sr. (Roseanne), Monica Hall, George Hall Sr. (Patience), Janet Rambo (Freddie), John Hall, Jr. (Helen), Tracy Hall, Kelly Polk, Constance Hall, Elizabeth Thigpen; brothers, Thomas Leslie and Stanley Leslie. sisters-in-law, Maude Hall and Catherine Brown; 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved nieces and nephews.

 

She was predeceased by her son, Charles L. Leslie; sisters, Christine Hall (Benjamin), Marion Sephas (Kenneth), brothers, Henry Leslie (Ethellene), James Brown, sons-in-law, Joshua Murray, Henry Polk, Sr., Kenny Thigpen and grandsons, Jordan Polk and Darell Jones.

 

A Homegoing Celebration for Gloria will commence on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1:00pm in the afternoon at Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078 with Reverend Melvin Brown presiding. A viewing will take place prior to the service beginning at 11:00 am at the church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Masks and social distancing protocols are required.  Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, NY.
