Obituary of Mae Dixie Gifford
Mrs. Mae Dixie Gifford, age 99, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at her home. Dixie was very grateful of her aides that tended to her care 24/7 and became like family.
She was born November 21, 1921 in the Town of Day, the daughter of the late Wilber and Corda Kenyon Coleman. At age 18 she worked at Alma Knitting Mill (Knit-Tru), later at Mario Papa and Sons in the Hand-Closing Dept; General Dry Battery during WWII and Wilkins Pocket Book factory. She loved attending plays, theatre and watching movies, as well as traveling with her husband to go square dancing. Her final interest was her enjoyment of butterflies.
Dixie was a member of the Foothills United Methodist Church, Ida McGinniss Senior Citizens Center, Bannertown Senior Citizens, VFW Auxiliary and was a former DAV Auxiliary Chaplain.
She is survived by two children, Carole Jean McClary (George) of Fort Johnson and Jeffrey Neil Gifford (Marta) of Royal Palm Beach, FL. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Gifford in 1986; a son, Philip Kevin Gifford in 1952 and a brother, Frank Coleman in 1995.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10am to 11am Monday, May 10, 2021 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am. Facial covering and social distancing will be required. Seating will be limited.
Interment will take follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
