Obituary of Fred Mark Sofka, Jr.

Mr. Fred Mark Sofka, Jr., age 63, of Gloversville, passed away on April 22, 2021 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady with his loving family by his side.

He was born November 1, 1957 in Gloversville, the son of the late Fred and Marilyn Frasier Sofka. Fred was a Custodian for Fulton County Buildings and Grounds for over 30 years. He married the love of his life, Sue Ellen Ringler, on August 21, 1982.

Fred loved spending time with his family especially his granddaughter Milania who he coined “Grandpa’s Girl”, and watching the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Syracuse Orange sports teams. Having the nickname of Fast Freddie, he enjoyed going to the stock car races and fair grounds all across the state. One of his favorite things to do was watch the trains go by in Fonda.

Fred is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen Sofka; their two children, Fred Mark Sofka III and Jessica Sofka (Mike Walendziak); two granddaughters, Milania and Emilee Waldenziak; his sister, Linda Sofka (Tom Getchell) Milania Walendziak; his two beloved cats, Kiki and Popsicle; along with several cousins and extended family members.

Funeral services will be private to the family at a time of their convenience, with interment taking place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to a charity of your choice in Fred's name.
