Obituary of Susan J. Washburn
Susan Washburn, age 70, passed away peacefully on Friday March 12, 2021, at home with her beloved husband and children by her side after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born on November 17,1950 in Brooklyn, NY; daughter to the late Ralph and Joyce (Horton) Paciolla.
Susan grew up and spent her life in Gloversville, NY. She attended Gloversville schools and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego. On June 2, 1973, Susan married the love of her life Elmer Washburn. They had three children together.
After raising her children, Susan returned to college and received a Master’s Degree from The College of St. Rose. She enjoyed a career working as a Speech Pathologist in area schools.
Susan was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, creativity, devotion to her family and zest for life. Susan loved to make things beautiful and was always redecorating and creating - whether it be gardening, quilting, painting, knitting, sewing, crocheting, or refinishing antique furniture. Susan also loved to travel and was fortunate to see and experience many different countries and cultures. One of her greatest joys and proudest moments was becoming a grandmother, and she shared a unique and special bond with each of her 5 grandchildren. She often expressed her pride in the family she helped to create.
Susan is survived by her unwavering and doting husband Elmer (who she was smooching right until her final moments); her children Erica Morales, Melanie (Coleman) Gockley and Thomas (Christina) Washburn; grandchildren Maia, Oliver, Lilah, JJ, and Juliana. She is also survived by her three siblings; Jill (Bob) Kucel, Stephen (Carol) Paciolla, and Robin (John) Kuhls, as well as cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Her family expresses their greatest appreciation to her caregivers for their devotion, dedication, and compassion during a most difficult time.
Services will be held privately by the immediate family due to Covid-19.
A celebration of Susan's life will begin at 5:00 pm Saturday, August 14, 2021 at The Eccentric Club, 109 N. Main St; Gloversville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
