Obituary of Robert W. D'Arcangelis
Mr. Robert W. D’Arcangelis, 80, of Main Street, Fort Plain, NY died on Saturday, March 6, 2021 surrounded by his family at Albany Medical Center. Born in Fort Plain, NY on June 29, 1940 he was the son of the late Angelo “Yio” D'Arcangelis and Elizabeth “Libby” Capece D’Arcangelis.
A lifelong area resident, Bob grew up in Fort Plain. He was the Salutatorian of the Fort Plain High School graduating class in 1958. He then went on to attend Syracuse University and Bentley College. Bob was the proprietor of Otsquago Construction Company Inc. for many years. Bob was also employed by the Department of Homeland Security with FEMA as a QA/QC Specialist until his retirement.
Bob was also committed to his community. He served as the Supervisor for the Town of Minden, Chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors and was the Charter President of Mid- County Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He served on the board of the Fort Plain Medical Center. Bob was an avid golfer and bowler and loved the Yankees. He will be remembered for his quick wit, always looking for a bargain and his love of family.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rosemarie F. (Herold) D’Arcangelis; his children, Yio A. D’Arcangelis, Stephanie R. (Kenneth J. Decker) D’Arcangelis DeMyer and John L. Pryor; five grandchildren, Chenya I. D’Arcangelis-Westley, Van D. DeMyer, Gavin M. Decker, Elisabeth N. Pryor and Karenna L. Pryor; his sisters, Sheila M. (Harold) Morrell and Desiree A. (Greg) Halloran; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 1p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. William T. Hodgetts, Jr. officiating. Calling hours will take place prior to the service beginning at 11a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in the Fort Plain Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
With everyone’s health and NYS regulations in mind, the number of visitors will be monitored. Mourners will be asked to be patient and must prepare to wait outside the building. Visitors will be cycled through while practicing social distancing so that all may have the chance to pay their respects. Masks are required. Seating will be limited. Please remember the sick, elderly and those with compromised health should avoid public settings.
