Obituary of Shirley M. Stetin

Mrs. Shirley M. Stetin, 84, of Fort Plain, died peacefully on February 1, 2021 at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

She was born on April 14, 1936 to Ruth Thompson Knowlton and Clarence "Peg" Knowlton, she attended Fort Plain Central School graduating in 1954.  

On October 1, 1955 she was united in marriage to Mr. Robert Stetin.  They remained lovingly married for 56 years, until Robert's passing on November 29, 2011.

In addition to her husband Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Peg.

Her loving family includes her sons; Michael (Sherry) Stetin of Nelliston, Daniel (Tracey) Stetin of Canajoharie, Timothy (Lisa) Stetin of Clarmont, FL, and Lawrence (Brenda) Stetin of Ames. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Joseph (Randi) Stetin, Courtney (Ethan) Hawver, Christopher, Alicia, Chelsea and Luke Stetin, and great-granddaughter Aly Hawver. She also leaves behind her sister Barbara Sanders of St. Johnsville, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shirley will be remembered for her sense of humor and outgoing personality; she had a special way of making friends with everyone she met.

A woman of great faith and community, Shirley was a parishioner of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in St Johnsville for many years. She enjoyed her home and sitting on her porch, entertaining her family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. A true nature lover Shirley enjoyed feeding and watching her birds, especially the hummingbirds, and tending to her garden. She loved traveling, taking visits to Florida and vacations in Maine as well as her get togethers with the Red Hats, shopping, dining & bus trips. Shirley loved to play games and enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching Wheel of Fortune and British TV dramas. More than anything she found her joy being together with her family that she loved so very much.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 3:00PM at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home 69 Otsego St, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Family and friends are invited to visit from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday prior to the service. Masks and social distancing must be observed. Interment will take place in the spring at Fort Plain Cemetery.
