Obituary of Frank P. Fernandez, Jr.
Frank P. “Firdy” Fernandez, Jr; age 92 of Gloversville, passed away January 30, 2021, one day prior to his 93rd birthday. He was born in Gloversville on January 31, 1928, son of Frank Sr. and Bertha (Catanzaro) Fernandez.
He was a 1946 graduate of Gloversville High School where he enjoyed being the manager of the basketball team. Thereafter Frank married the love of his life. Anna DeSantis on June 18, 1950. They raised three children together. He worked in the leather industry and then became the Superintendent of the monitoring stations for the Gloversville-Johnstown Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility in Johnstown until his retirement in 1993.
After retirement, Frank and Anna enjoyed spending their winters in Florida where he enjoyed fishing and soaking up the sun. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he had a great passion for watching the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He loved to dance and sing and was the highlight of every party with his “sailor dance” and his rendition of “New York, New York”.
Frank will be missed and remembered for his kindness, great humor and his upbeat disposition. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, his children, Cathy (Mike Martin) and Frank (Luci) Fernandez, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Ryder (William). He was also predeceased by his five sisters Gloria Foster, Rosalia Paxton, Marie Dosso, Frances “Frenchie” Dosso and Janet Coon.
There will be no calling hours. A private celebration of life will be held in the months to come. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
