Obituary of Jean M. Sievers
Mrs. Jean M. Sievers, 85, a life-long resident of the Town of Florida, New York, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 17, 1936 to the late John and Louise (Meyers) Abraham, she attended local schools and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School with the class of 1954.
After graduating from high school, Jean worked as a typist for Amsterdam Printing & Litho for several years. On March 24, 1956 she was united in marriage to the late Raymond Sievers. Following their marriage, Jean devoted herself to her family. Together, Jean and Ray raised two sons on their farm in the Town of Florida. She was also a devoted member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and at one time volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary at the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
In her spare time, Jean enjoyed everything that the gardening hobby had to offer. She loved gardening outdoors and took advantage of every harvest season, canning whatever fruits and vegetables she didn’t use to last over the winter. She also took special care of her African violets indoors. Besides gardening, Jean also spent her time sewing, keeping up her home, and spending time with her family.
Jean’s loving family includes her son, Timothy J. Sievers of the Town of Florida; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Sievers of Cooperstown; her grandchildren, Jessica Sievers, Eric Sievers, Nicole (Daniel) Sievers-McGee, Nathaniel Donahue, and John Sievers; her great-granddaughters, Briana, Madison, and Keegan McGee; her sisters, Helen Kosola of Omaha, Nebraska, and Karen Abraham of Sebring, Florida; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Aside from her parents, John and Louise, Jean was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 2016, as well as by her son, Michael Sievers in 2011.
Funeral services will be held privately, at the convenience of the family. Interment services will be announced in the spring, to be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, New York where she will be laid to rest with Ray. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department, 6252 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
