Obituary of Blanche M. Hayes
Mrs. Blanche M. Hayes, 93, of the Town of Mohawk, died peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2021 following a long illness. Born in Gloversville, NY on June 30, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Barney and Lillian Cole Spencer.
A lifelong area resident, Blanche was a graduate of Gloversville High School and worked at Templeton Gloves for a short time.
On May 7, 1944 she was united in marriage to James E. Hayes. Together for 63 years, they owned and operated the Hayes Dairy Farm and raised nine children. That union ended with his passing on August 14, 2007. Blanche was a woman of great faith and pride. For 70 years she made the farm her home, working endless hours in the barn and still making time to care for her children and run the household. Her homestead was the center for many celebrations, parties and holidays. She enjoyed entertaining, baking and having Sunday dinner. Blanche also enjoyed word searches, jig saw puzzles, bingo and just spending time on her swing. Above everything, she loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include nine children, Jim (Donna) Hayes, Larry (Denise) Hayes, Tom (Nancy) Hayes, Barney (Charlotte) Hayes, Richard Hayes, Jamie (Kevin) Davis, Gregg (Cora) Hayes, Kim Hayes and Mark (Diana) Hayes; twenty two grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Harold, George, Russell, Carl, Barney, Charles, Donald James, Barbara, Irma and Willard; one granddaughter, Chrissy; and one great grandson, Eion.
Private calling hours will take place at the convenience of the family.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
