Obituary of Theresa A. Korona
Mrs. Theresa Ann (Cislo) Korona, 89, of Amsterdam, NY, peacefully entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 13th at home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Amsterdam on February 9, 1931, a daughter of the late Anna (Stepien) and Jacob Cislo. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam, New York. She attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated in 1949 from St. Mary’s Catholic High School. For over 20 years she worked for the Bell Atlantic/Verizon Telephone Company as a Directory Assistance Operator. Theresa was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Coming from a Polish descent, she loved to make Pierogi’s and Golumpki’s. She volunteered her time at St. John’s and St.Stan’s Churches making pierogi’s for the Polish Picnics. Theresa also volunteered her time at the St. Mary’s Hospital Gift shop for many years and was a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and an avid bowler of the ABC/WIBC Mixed League Bowling club.
On May 24, 1953, Theresa was united in marriage to Chester J. Korona. That union was blessed with 40 years of marriage until his passing on May 10, 1993. She was also predeceased by her brothers John and Stanley Cislo, and sisters Mary Pesta, Frances Wojciek, Helen Hastings, Regina Abeel; and her daughter, Janet Greco in April of 2020.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane (Mark) Booth of Lansing, NY, twins, Pamela (Dave) D’Amato of Forest, VA and Patricia Traver of Amsterdam, NY; and one son, Kenneth Korona of Amsterdam, NY; one son-on-law, Paul Greco; and one sister, Lottie LaRoe.
Cherished grandchildren, Jon Booth of Golden, CO, Katie Booth (Scott) Rohrer of Charleston, SC, Jeffrey Booth of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kyle Korona of Amsterdam, Kelsey Korona (Peter) Crocitto of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Sean Greco of Syracuse, NY, Juliane Greco (Phil Miskinis) of Rensselaer, NY, Jenna and Lindsay D’Amato of Forest, VA, Nicole, Danielle and Brandon Traver of Amsterdam, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to Colleen Baker and Hilda Quill for their care, love, devotion and friendship. In addition, thank you to all the caregivers who helped with her care and especially to her granddaughters Nicole and Danielle Traver who gave of their time.
Theresa’s love and care for her family was first and foremost. Her laughter was contagious and her smile was everlasting. She had a heart of gold that she shared willingly. May the memory of her sweet, loving, kindness carry on in all of our lives. She will be reunited with our Dad and they will be dancing the Polka together in Heaven.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, calling hours and services are private for family and close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and will be live streamed on the BRBS Facebook page on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11:15a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey M. L’Arche as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
