Obituary of Tracy K. Sawyer, DPT

Mrs. Tracy K. Sawyer, DPT, 57, of the Town of Florida, NY passed away suddenly on January 6, 2021.  Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 7, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Marie Postl Van Alstine. 

 

A lifelong area resident, Tracy was a 1981 graduate of Amsterdam High School.  She then went on to graduate from Ithaca College in 1985 with a bachelor’s of physical therapy, and she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Boston University in 2006.  

 

Tracy was employed as a physical therapist at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady.  Dedicated to helping others, she enjoyed her career and took great pride in her work. She was an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and served on the executive committee for the New York Physical Therapy Association.

 

At home, Tracy was an avid baker and loved to make cookies and other treats to share with family and friends. Her other hobbies included cross stitch, knitting and puzzles, and she treasured time with her family, including their pet cat Scandel. She loved the theater, especially performances at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. Tracy also enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors.

 

On April 18, 1992 she was united in marriage to Jon D. Sawyer.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children, Devon Sawyer of Atlanta, Georgia and Cole Sawyer of Amsterdam; and three sisters, Shelia Van Alstine of Rensselaer, New York, Kay Van Alstine of Irving, Texas and Pamela Van Alstine of Amsterdam; and numerous cousins and many friends.
