Obituary of Virginia A. Healey

Mrs. Virginia A. Healey, 89, of Upper Prospect Street, Fonda, passed away on December 29, 2020.

Virginia is survived by her son, Timothy (Ellen) Healey of Fonda; her daughter, Cara (Frank) Tarson of East Syracuse. Three grandchildren, Jessica Healey, Melissa (Michael) Healey-Oconitrillo, and Joel Tarson; two great grandchildren, Mia Healey and Bailey Ovitt- Healey; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents Virginia is predeceased by the love of her life her husband Francis J. “Red” Healey, Jr. who passed away on October 8, 2019.

She was born November 22, 1931 in Fonda, the daughter of Luigi and Mary (Luciano) DiSpirito. Virginia graduated from the Fonda High School in 1949. In 1953 she received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from the State University of New York at Oneonta, NY. Later she received, The Degree of Master of Science in Education from the same college.  She was employed as a Home Economics Teacher by the Fonda Fultonville School District for over 37 years until retiring in 1989.  Virginia loved to shop. She enjoyed traveling with her family to Wells Beach in Maine. Virginia also enjoyed traveling with her husband and close friends, Michelle and Salvatore Furnare to Ireland, Italy, Europe, Hawaii and many cruises throughout the Caribbean and Alaska. Virginia also enjoyed going to her husband Red's USS Albany Reunions.  Virginia was also a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church, Fonda and a former member of the Holy Name Society of the church. Virginia was a member of the NYS Teachers Association, Glen Mohawk Seniors and a former member of the Montgomery County Co-operative Extension.

Private calling hours will take place at the Jackson & Betz Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY  12072 on Friday January 8, 2021 from 4 to 7 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068 with the Rev. Fr. Christopher Welch Celebrant on Saturday January 9, 2021 at 11 AM.  Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot of the Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda, NY. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required at all services.
