Obituary of John M. McKeough
John M. “Jack” McKeough, Jr., 68, of Gloversville, NY passed away at home with his loving family by his side on December 9, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Utica, NY, he was the eldest son of John M. and Constance (Fenner) McKeough, Sr.
Jack graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany, NY, in 1970. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from SUNY Albany in 1974. Jack worked for Price Chopper Supermarkets, Golub Corporation, from a young age, retiring in 2004 as the Director of Training and Communications. He was proud of his work with the Golub Scholarship Foundation, and particularly enjoyed organizing corporate events.
Jack had a variety of interests. In his youth, he enjoyed being a part of rock and roll bands, especially Rutland Road, with his friends. A music lover, he enjoyed concerts and playing his record collection. He liked photography and videography, and was often behind the camera. Jack was an active hunter, enjoying time outdoors and at hunting camp with his family and friends, where he was always cooking for a crowd. He spent many summers boating on the Sacandaga Lake and snowmobile riding in the winters. He took pride in caring for his home, yard, and flowers. Jack spent much of his retirement building and customizing model cars of all sizes. He loved cars, especially his 1976 Sport Spider Fiat and his 2014 Dodge Challenger. He loved the family and neighborhood pets, and caring for his “grand-dogs”, Denali, Mackensie, and McKinley. Most recently, Jack loved being a Papa to his two grandsons. He delighted in teaching them to swim, cooking for them, and working on their projects in his workshop.
Jack is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kimberly (Brown) McKeough, daughters Jennifer (Aaron) Flynn, and Amanda McKeough; grandsons John “Jack” and Michael Flynn; his mother, Constance McKeough; siblings Tracey (Stanley) Olender, Lawrence (Deborah) McKeough, Kathryn (Sean) Duncan, James (Paula) McKeough; a special brother-in-law and friend, James (Sherry) Brown, as well as many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in-laws and friends; and canine companion, Reese. He was predeceased by his father John McKeough, Sr. in 2009.
Jack’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staffs of both NYOH in Amsterdam and Mountain Valley Hospice for their extraordinary care. Due to current restrictions on gathering, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society.
