To my Uncle & Godfather, Edward Murphy, a humble, kind and gentle man. Thank you. Thank you for being a great example, a great uncle, brother, father, grandfather, great-uncle, husband and undoubtedly an excelent math teacher. Thank you for looking after my mom and myself all these years since my dad passed away and in more recent years, looking after Maddie & Nikki. I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Murphy's passing. My husband and I both had him for Pre-Calculus and Analytic Geometry our senior year. He retired before I returned to Amsterdam and began my teaching career in the math department there. It has been several years since I saw him at a Math retirement party. He was a wonderful teacher and I will always remember him fondly. He always had a smile in class and outside of class. I hope that my students will have those kinds of memories of me. Prayers for peace and comfort to all of his family! Rest in peace, Mr. Murphy!!!

My deepest condolences to Betty and family. I had the “great” pleasure of waiting on “Murph”, as I was told to call him, and Betty and was happy to see them come in. I will treasure the great man he was, and how friendly and caring he was. I will also treasure my handmade cutting board he gave me ...what a thoughtful man. Betty, I’m so very for your loss. Here are a couple of photos of my grandfather on the two occasions I was able to visit this year. Gramp got so much joy from the home he lived in on Country Club Lane - what better place for a golfer to live? My grandfather always showed up for those in his life, and I was lucky enough to be one of those. When I lived in Germany for two years, he wrote handwritten letters to me every single week. Those letters kept me going when I was lonely, and reminded me of home. I treasure them. He stayed up with me when I couldn't fall asleep when I was a kid, asking me math and spelling questions until I fell asleep. He helped me with my math homework (although I only ever barely understood math at my best), and let me clamber up on his lap even when I was too tall to fit. He was a great man, and the best grandfather a person could have. I will miss him every day.

I will miss Ed a lot, He, Frank, Tim and I spent great times traveling to area golf courses and trying to beat each other while doing it. He was always an UP person, never complaining or grousing about conditions. I wish there were more people like him. I know that Betty will miss him and the care she gave him the last few years showed just how close they were. God bless Ed and Betty and our prayers go to both of them.

Margaret, a first-grader, walked my Dad to kindergarten for his first day at the old Guy Park Avenue School. He cried and wanted to stay with her. So - he skipped kindergarten and went straight to first grade. Two peas in a pod. Adorable. That’s my Gramma Murphy’s handwriting on the photo.

Sue and i will forever cherish our Erie canal bike rides with dad. He was always up for a bike ride! And once we got out there we would often have the best conversations while pedaling along the towpath. It was such a gift for the three of us to have shared those times.

Our deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to Mrs Murphy and family. Ed was one of the best teachers I had in HS. He was an inspiration and the reason I loved math, figures and problem solving. He was loved by all who knew him . I enjoyed seeing him sitting in the garage this past summer. Rest In Peace Ed. My deepest condolences to the Murphy family. Mr. Murphy was a very good golfer, a fine math teacher, and an exceptional person that I was lucky to call my friend for many years after high school. I saw him earlier this year, and spent 30 minutes chatting with him off Rolling Hills 16th green. It was like time had stood still. Sharing a photo of my Mom and Dad this past summer. My Dad struggled with some big challenges over the last fourteen months, and we feel lucky and grateful he was with us as long as he was. My Mom is a hero. She gave him great care.

My deepest condolences! Your Dad (and Mom) are truly the salt of the earth. Always so nice to me when we were in high school. I didnt see your dad for many years before I started playing much golf at the Muni in the 1990's. The first time i saw him in the clubhouse, he said "Hi Keith, how have you been". This was after so many years, I was shocked he remembered me. Absolutely one the the nicest, if not THE nicest man I have met. God Bless him, you and your entire family! Keith Engle
