Obituary of Philomena R. Goodberlet
Mrs. Philomena Goodberlet, 91, of Jewett Street, Amsterdam passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2020 following a brief illness.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on January 18, 1929 she was the oldest daughter of the late Herman and Mary Tartaglia. She moved to Gloversville, NY and grew up in a close Italian family. Philomena attended Gloversville schools and worked in her family store and was employed at Brenton Industries until her retirement in 1991.
On July 29, 1951 she was united in marriage to Wilbur F. Goodberlet. That union was blessed with 53 years of marriage until his passing on September 3, 2004. She was also predeceased by her siblings John, Ernie, Albert and infant sister, Anna.
She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife; a caring big sister and a sweet, gentle soul. She was a wonderful mother and a fairy tale grandmother. Philomena loved her home, her faith and her family, and will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her children, Larry Goodberlet, Lorraine DelCostello (Jim Youngs), and Kathy Peluso and her husband Paul, all of Amsterdam; four grandchildren Richard DelCostello, Jenna DelCostello Dodd, Paul Peluso (Ashley Werner) and Dan Peluso (Katie Burt); the two joys of her life, great grandsons Brody and Carson Dodd; her beloved friend and caregiver Kim Brown; her son-in-law, Richard DelCostello (Grace Perfetti); her siblings Anna Howard and her husband Jerry, Amy Alexander and her husband Jim, Victor Tartaglia and his wife Pat; a cousin, Phyllis Guiffre; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to her beloved church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
A private Funeral Mass for family will take place on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 11 o’clock. For those that wish to attend may attend online at the BRBS Facebook Page, where it will be Live Streamed. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
