Obituary of Nancy Smith
Mrs. Nancy Neile Mattice Smith, 77, went home to be with her Lord, and her soulmate Fred on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Wilkinson RHCF.
Mrs. Smith was born on November 13, 1942 in Richmondville, NY. She was the daughter of Cornelius and Leora Sperbeck Mattice. She attended Richmondville Central School.
She was married to Douglas Frederick Crewell on July 18, 1959 until his death in August of 1978. She later married her soulmate and the love of her life Fred “Pucky” Smith on May 7, 1983. They had a very loving and caring marriage until his death in 2008.
When her children were young Nancy returned to school for her nursing degree and worked as an LPN at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for 31 years before retiring in 2000. She was Den Mother and then a Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop #42 in Glen, NY. She also acted as Scout Master when the Scout Master was sick. She was a member of Advanced Guard WWII Veterans and encouraged others to consider joining to help those who have served our country.
Being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother were her favorite roles in life. She enjoyed cooking for her family and watching her grandchildren play. As they grew older Nancy enjoyed hanging out with them and listening to them. She was also an avid New York Yankees fan.
Nancy is survived by her daughters; Laurie (John) Barney of St. Johnsville, NY, Lynda (Eugene) Russell of Glen, NY, son Ronald Cornelius (Janet) Crewell of Glen, NY, and daughter-in-law Erin Smith of Texas. She also leaves behind 12 beloved grandchildren; Charmane and Amanda Barney, Nichole Mulyca, Douglas and Robert Crewell, Cory, Cody, and Caitlyn Russell, Sasha, Eriana, Stevie, and Elias Smith, as well as several great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her son Leo J. Crewell in 1967, her first husband Douglas F. Crewell in 1978, her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and James Simmons in 1991, her son Douglas Vaughn Crewell in 2014, her great granddaughter in 2015, her son Stephen Smith in 2016 and her sister Roberta Mattice in 2020.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 3:30PM at Glen Reformed Church 1526 NY-161, Fultonville, NY 12072. Calling Hours will take place on Saturday at Glen Reformed Church from 2:30PM to 3:30PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Town of Glen Volunteer Fire Department, 134 Auriesville Rd. Fultonville, NY 12072.
