Obituary of Dorothy Dwyer

In 1947 Dorothy was united in marriage to Sergeant Francis William Dwyer of Danbury, Connecticut. Dorothy was also predeceased by her parents, Peter and Christina; her brothers, Theodore Domblewski, Frank Dumblewski, Peter Dumblewski, all of Amsterdam; and her sisters, Mary (Tony) Pakenas of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Gertrude (Peter) Bluvas of Amsterdam.
Dorothy loved working in retail. She was employed in the baby department at the Enterprise Store in Amsterdam until its closure. After the Enterprise Store’s closing, Dorothy went on to work at Esquire Novelty in Amsterdam for over 30 years until her retirement.
A woman of great faith and community, Dorothy was a communicant of St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church until its closing in 2009, afterwards attending St. Stephen’s Church in Hagaman.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Karen (David) Morey of Conway, South Carolina; her sisters-in-law, Mary (Kenneth) Flynn of Leicester, North Carolina, Anna (Joseph) Gazek of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Roberta Dumblewski of Amsterdam; her long-time friend and caretaker, Arvilla Graham, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, October 2nd from 11:00AM to 12:00 noon at St Stephen's Church, 51 N Pawling St, Hagaman NY, 12086. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 noon with Father Jeffrey L’Arche presiding. Due to Covid-19, all attendees are required to wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines. Interment will follow in Saint Casimir’s Cemetery.
