Obituary of Madeline M. Schuyler
Mrs. Madeline Schuyler, 89, of Orchard Street, Canajoharie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at home. Born on June 4, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Maria Augustine.
A lifelong area resident, Madeline graduated from Fort Plain High School and later attended Albany Business College. She was first employed by General Electric and then moved to California where she worked for UCLA. Following the birth of her four children, she along with her husband moved back to the area. For over 30 years she was employed for the Victory Market and retired as the Produce Manager. Madeline also worked for Dr. Eagan’s office for several years and fully retired at the age of 86.
On July 18, 1954 she was united in marriage to James C. Schuyler. That union lasted 53 years until his passing in 2007. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Luciano, Romolo, Blontino, and Angelina; and one grandson, Robbie Lee Mason.
Madeline always took time to do special favors and prepared dinners for friends and family, and gave gifts generously. She also enjoyed reading and watching her favorite team the NY Yankees. Madeline also traveled cross country several time with her four children and her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her precious grandchildren and was proud of all of them. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her four children, Philip J. Schuyler (Catherine), Nickie A. Orendorff (Alfred), Paul J. Schuyler (Robin) and Patricia J. Laux (Larry); seven grandchildren, Stephanie Montanye, Jennifer Yerkes, Amy Mason, Steven Laux, Joseph Mason, Carly Schuyler and Shane Schuyler; seven great grandchildren, Jacob, Riley, Frederick, Carter, Lillyona, JoJo and Colton; dear brother, Chancy Augustine; dear nephews, Vance Augustine and Donald Augustine and their families, John and RG Schuyler; a dear niece, Gilda Augustine; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Augustine; several other nieces, nephews; special friends, Sally Peters, Doris Dutcher and Alice Feulner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 11a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 5 until 7p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Masks and social distancing protocols are required for all events.
