Obituary of Rose Gargiulo
Miss Rose Gargiulo, 90, of Amsterdam, passed away Thursday September 17, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 25, 1930 a daughter of the late John and Emelia Ferrara Gargiulo. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a 1948 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Rose received her Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY Oswego in 1952. She went on to receive her Master of Science Degree in Education from the College of St. Rose in Albany.
Rose was first employed in outlying school districts in Amsterdam before taking a Teaching position with the Greater Amsterdam School District. She taught at several different schools in the district and retired in 1985. She later was a substitute teacher for 7 years.
She was a member of the NYS United Teachers Association and the New York State and Amsterdam Retired Teachers Association, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, the Mohawk Valley Heritage Association and the Mohawk Valley Chorus.
Rosee was of the Roman Catholic Faith and a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. She is survived by her nieces and nephews and was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 26, 2020 at 11:15AM with Father Jeffrey M. L’Arche M.S. as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday prior to the funeral mass at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam from 9:30 AM to 10:30AM.
