Obituary of Doris E. Horton

     Doris E. “Dorie” Wert Horton, 99, of Amsterdam, passed away on Tuesday June 23, 2020 at her home.

   She was born in Amsterdam on August 14, 1920 a daughter of the late William and Martha Severin Wert.  She was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of the Former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.

   Dorie was employed first at the former Montco Manufacturing in Amsterdam until 1962.  She then went to work at the Amsterdam Recorder for 20 years until retiring in 1982. 

    She was a member of the former 1^st Reformed Church in Amsterdam.  She was also a member of the Horace Inman Senior Center.  She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her family always looked forward to her apple sauce and her baking.  She was an avid Yankees Baseball Fan and loved reading and word puzzles in the paper. 

   Dorie was also a volunteer for many years for Montgomery County Office for the Aging in Amsterdam.

   She married Harold D. Horton on  December 25, 1941. He passed away in 2010. They were married 68 years.  

She is survived by Two daughters, Sherry A. Lent and Janet A. DeMaria both of Amsterdam.  One son Larry Horton also of Amsterdam.  Eight Grandchildren,  Macayla Smith, Christopher Lent, Jocelyn (RJ) Barone, Jessie DeMaria, Jenna DeMaria, Jamie ( Matthew) Chen, David Horton, Tracy (Charles) Beekman.  Sixteen great-grandchildren and One Great-great grandchild.   Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.  She was predeceased by her cherished granddaughter Megan Cionek in 2014,  her son-in-law, James "Jim" Lent in 2019  and  her siblings, Mildred Humes, William, Richard and Donald Wert. 

     Funeral services will be held on Friday August 14, 2020  at 12:00 Noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday August 14, 2020 from 11:00 to 12:00 Noon prior to 

the service at the funeral home.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice or to the City Mission in Schenectady, NY.  Entombment will be in the Gerald B.H.
