Obituary of Anthony James Mickus

Anthony James “Tony” Mickus, 59, of Amsterdam, NY laid his head to rest in God’s arms Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Born on April 19, 1961 in Cohoes, NY to Jerome and MaryEllen (Erschen) Mickus, Tony was raised in Hagaman with his siblings, and attended Amsterdam schools. As a child, he enjoyed fishing, baseball, and playing in the woods. 

Tony held various jobs throughout his lifetime, because he could build or fix anything he put his mind to. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Tony primarily worked as a general laborer for construction companies for over 30 years; he was employed by RAYCO of Schenectady, located in Amsterdam, for over 20 years, and ended his career at Potts and Wesley Building and Restoration. 

Tony is survived by his parents, Jerome Sr. and MaryEllen Mickus, his former wives, Lisa Randall and Brenda, his children; Christopher (Ashley), Katie, Cassandra, Shayla, and Matthew Mickus, his grandchildren; Christian, J.J., Alynna, Josh, Jiane, Camron, Nate, Alex, Alyna, Amelia, Caylie, Caiden, and Caleb, his great-granddaughter, Cadalyn, his siblings, Juliet Mickus, Karen Vennett, and Jerome Jr. (Ericka), as well as by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his brother, Jaimé J. Mickus, his grandparents, Mathias and Julia Erschen and Thomas and Etta Mickus, his uncles, Mathias Erschen III, and Richard Mickus, as well as by his cousin, Monica Erschen.

Tony had a spirited soul, and a larger than life personality. To know him was to love him. He was quick with a smile, and could charm anyone. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in all of us.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 11:00am at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Tony will be interred with his brother Jaimé in Fairview Cemetery on Steadwell Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Family and friends are invited, and may call from 9:30 until 10:30 in the morning at St. Stanislaus Church.
