Obituary of Joan D. Ruzycky
Joan D. Barney (Betler) Ruzycky, age 84, of Gloversville, passed away Friday morning, May 15, 2020 at Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Gloversville.
She was born July 26, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Gordon Barney (Versella) and Bivian Hall (Arthur).
Joan was a graduate of Mayfield High School where she was also a drum majorette. She was employed at Martin and Naylor Department Store, Gifford's Variety Store, Holiday Inn and the Fulton County Board of Elections.
She enjoyed swimming and being a lifeguard in her younger years. She was an avid licensed motorcyclist. She was very outgoing and never seemed to let anything get her down. Her famous sayings were "What's new pussycat" and "What's up buttercup". She was truly known for her laughter and smile.
Joan is survived by two sons, Russell D. Betler (Deborah) and Steven L. Betler; a brother, Arthur Hall of Mayfield; a sister, Merry Hall of Mayfield and a sister, Patricia Guy of Perth. She has five grandchildren, Clifton, Jacob, Samantha, Cody and Courtney, all originally of Mayfield. She also has nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Cary, who died as an infant and a sister, Jo Ann Russell of Mayfield.
The family would like to give a heartfelt Thanks to all of the healthcare workers and staff at the Fulton Center for helping Joan get through each and every day. Much appreciated.
