Obituary of Betty Ann Hernigle

Betty Ann Klock Hernigle, 86, of Sprakers, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2020 with her husband and daughters by her side. Betty was born on February 25, 1934 to Mildred and Russell Klock in Little Falls, NY. She graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1951 and worked at General Telephone Company as a CTI Supervisor for over 17 years. Betty was a member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church.

On May 15, 1959, she married James Hernigle, her husband of nearly 61 years. In addition to her loving husband, Betty’s memory lives on in the hearts of her daughters Paula (Dale) Beaver of Sterling, MA and Cheryl Simpson of Sprakers; grandchildren Lauren Synkoski of Lunenburg, MA, Megan Beaver of Arlington, VA, and Jackson Simpson of Sprakers; sisters Barbara VanSchaick of Fort Plain, Sally Emery of Fonda, and Judy Wilson of Pittsburg, PA; brother Peter (Karen) Klock of St. Johnsville; brother-in-law Albert Hernigle of Sprakers; and sister-in-law Nellie Hernigle of Salisbury, NC.  She is also survived by her very special nephews William (JoAnne) Hernigle of Palatine Bridge and Randy (Laura Lee) Hernigle of Sprakers; her “third daughter” Dawn Montanye (James) of Flat Creek; her “fourth grandchild” Morgan Jacksland of New York;  cousins, friends, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Betty is predeceased by her sisters Marilyn Fettinger, Eleanor Hernigle, Gail Ford, and grandson Richard Synkoski.

Above all, Betty most cherished her family and loved any time spent together. She enjoyed dining out, road trips with her husband, Jimmy, and summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard. Betty loved having a good time, spending time at the casino, sipping her Bailey’s, and was always ready for the next adventure with Jimmy. Despite having a large family, Betty never forgot a birthday or anniversary and would light up your day with a singing voicemail if she couldn't reach you.  Betty was a natural caregiver, keeping everyone fed with “Betty batches” of her famous macaroni and shrimp salad which was always a hit with family at parties and holidays.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department or Charleston Four Corners Volunteer Fire Department. Private services will be held for immediate family only.   A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
