Obituary of Doren Gray
Doren Gray 72, passed away peacefully at home on 4-9-20 from cancer surrounded by his loving family. Doren will always be loved, missed and remembered for his loyalty and compassion. Doren was born on 10-1-1947 in Newark, NJ to the late Sidney Omega Gray & Myrtle Pollard Gray. Doren was raised in the Bronx, NY. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School and he worked at The Coco Cola Bottling Company until he moved to Gloversville, NY. Doren worked at Wood & Hyde and at Bishop Burke.
Doren loved to bowl. He was a member of the “In Crowd Bowling Team” he won 3 championships. Doren loved to play pool and sing. Doren was the Choir Director for The People AME Zion Church in Gloversville. He also sung with The Pop Tones & The Shades Of Black. Doren loved spending time with his family and most of all with his grandchildren. He loved to take long walks around the city and loved his scratch offs (lottery tickets) and doing yard work.
Doren leaves behind his best friend and wife Shirell Gray; his children Dorray Gray-Powell of New Jersey, Doren Westpoint, of NY, Doren Gray Jr. (DJ) of the Bronx, Adwana Baker (Winston) of Florida, Doren Greenfield of Gloversville, Doren Gray III of Gloversville, Chad Gray (Ashley) of Johnstown, Deshae Gray Cook (Timothy); two step Children, Shaneika Sheffield of Florida & Ronell Sheffield of Gloversville; 30 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren; a special niece Tonia Mitchell (Nate) and two special nephews Thomas Jones & Ed Hill; His favorite nurse/great niece Shantae Mathias; God-Sister Gail Ligon. Close cousins Margo Reid, Raymond Bowman & Richard Beekman; along with other Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doren was predeceased by his parents Sidney & Myrtle Gray, a son Charles Blanding, two sisters Eva Kane Thomas & Alfreda Haskins, and one Brother Jimmy Kane.
A celebration of Life will be at a later time.
