Obituary of Gordon C. Pitcher
Gordon C. Pitcher, 75, of Cobleskill, NY died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 27, 2020. Born on September 30, 1944 in Amsterdam, NY he was the son of the late Cecil and Edna (VanAlstein) Pitcher.
A lifelong area resident, Gordon was a graduate of Cherry Valley Central School, Class of 1962. He worked on the family farm from 1962 to 1968 when he became a truck driver for Nelson’s Laundry in Fort Plain. He also drew and delivered water for 28 years. He was later employed by Bauder Oil and Agway. In 1974 he started he own business, Pitcher’s Trucking and General Repair.
Gordon was a member of the Northeast Antique Power Association and the Roseboom Antique Power Days. He loved working and restoring tractors. Red was his color and IH was what he loved. He owned many of his own IH tractors and enjoyed taking them to the tractor shows.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Williams Pitcher; his daughter, Sandy (James) Whipple of Fultonville, NY; one step-daughter, Shelley (Jack) Dodson of Rotterdam, NY; and five cherished grandchildren whom he loved spending time with, Christy, Colby and Jacklyn Dodson and Brady and Colin Whipple.
Due to the Covid-19 Outbreak, services are private and burial will take place in the Freysbush Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordie's memory to the Roseboom Antique Power Days. Checks should be made out and mailed to Mr. Jack VanBuren, 131 John Deere Road, Cherry Valley, NY 13320.
