Obituary of Theron M. Hoyt
Surrounded by family, Theron entered peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2020. He was 87.
Born at home in Broadalbin, NY on September 9, 1932, Theron was the son of the late Andrew and Mildred Stanton Hoyt. Survivors include his loving wife Elaine and three sons - Robert (Terri) and Kevin (MaryPat) both of Broadalbin, and David (Julie) of Alaska. Also surviving are a sister Frona Kissinger of Gloversville, a brother Paul of Broadalbin and many nieces and nephews. Theron was predeceased by a brother Robert.
Theron also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren and five great grandchildren Robert (Sarah) Hoyt and children Gregory and Caytlyn of Fort Hunter, Aaron (Anita) Hoyt and children Gracie and Carter of Gloversville, Heather Hoyt DeLack (Ian), Hayley Hoyt (Kyle) and daughter Aubrey, all of Alaska.
After graduating from Broadalbin High School in 1950 Theron enlisted in the US Navy serving from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Lake Champlain and USS Greenwich Bay. Theron was very proud of his Navy service and often regaled his family with tales of his travels and adventures overseas.
On June 9, 1957 Theron wed the love of his life Elaine Louer and they cherished each other for the next 63 years. Together they made their home in Amsterdam raising their three sons with love, laughter, and a good dose of patience.
Theron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed the camping life, boating, fishing, hunting, cooking, and hiking. Using his tour planning skills, many memorable road trips were taken to Florida, Branson MO, Tennessee, Canada, The New England States and the ultimate road trip to Alaska. He was an avid woodworker—crafting furniture large and small, picture frames, model car cases, and flag displays for his retired military friends. A handy mechanic, Theron could fix the car, mower, snow blower and snowmobiles. An avid NASCAR fan, his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Kevin Harvick. Blessed with a great sense of humor Theron held court at weekly family dinners which he liked to call Thursday Night Comedy Hour.
Theron was a hard worker his whole life; working on the family farm from a young age, peddling popcorn at the Vails Mills drive-in and working at the Broadalbin Knitting Mill all before graduating high school. Later he worked at Mohawk Mills, Ritter Chemical, and finally General Electric from which he retired after 33 years of service.
Theron was a member of the United Methodist Church of Amsterdam and previously held church office positions at Emmanuel Presbyterian.
